A beautiful home in the                 centre of Montsoreau, on the banks of         the river Loire, one of the prettiest                        villages in France.

The Loire Valley a destination rich in history... Saumur, it's chateau dominating       the Loire river, also home to the famous Cadre Noir... The Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, the largest preserved monastic site in Europe …The medieval villages of Montsoreau and Candes-Saint-Martin both labelled one of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France"

In the centre of this very charming village of Montsoreau, Le 16 is to be found along one of the meandering   streets lined with pretty old tuffeau stone houses, just behind the 11th century château.

The village has restaurants and bars with great views of the Loire and easy access to the  Châteaux of the Loire and vineyards.

Experience a fabulous holiday here in Montsoreau and the stunning surroundings in the Loire valley.

You will find plenty to do and discover or just do nothing at all!

Montsoreau is a magical place with its Renaissance style Chateau dominating the Loire. The only chateau in the Loire valley built in the riverbed. In just a few minutes from Le Seize you could be wandering into the courtyard of the chateau and slowly making your way around the large interior and imagining life in the 15th century.

Inspired by the chateau, the novel La Dame de Montsoreau by Alexandre Dumas was written. The chateau has the world's largest collection of works by the  Art & Language movement & has been renamed the  Chateau de Montsoreau-Museum of Contemporary  Art.

There are bars & restaurants on your door step, you can enjoy the river, just steps away or take a walk up high behind the village to the vineyards & enjoy the magnificent views over the Loire and beyond. Some of the vines are owned by the family that have the wine cave in the village.

If you fancy a relaxing stroll, take the road Candes-saint-Martin you won't be disappointed. Another 'Beaux Village' just along the river from Montsoreau. You can enjoy the architecture, visit the church, go for lunch at the Auberge de la Route d'Or or wander to the wine bar by the river & try some new wines & 'le snacking' before you wander back. Along the way, pop into the artisanal jewellery boutique or try making your own scent at the Nicolas de Barry, Haut Parfumerie.

If the river beckons, go for a boat ride along the river to Saumur, or if hunger calls, enjoy lunch, watch the swans go by, enjoy river views on the river boat restaurant.

Sunday morning market is always something that we like to do. The normally quiet village comes alive with locals & tourists. Buy fresh vegetables from local farmers, fish from the  mobile fishmonger, spit roasted chickens with lovely potatoes  cooked in the chicken juices, a readymade Sunday lunch, what more could you want..wine maybe. Choose locally produced wine from the vineyards of La Pallaine, sold in the small boutique, Francoise will have you try all. Go for a coffee, have a glass of wine & soak up the atmosphere. Every second Sunday of the month there is a flea market 'Les Puces de Montsoreau' along the quayside selling quality antiques & art.

The patisserie in the boulangerie Besnard are some of the best. Croissants, pain au chocolat for breakfast a must.

For lovers of English/French history & just a 5 minute drive away, the 11th century, Royal Abbey of Fontevraud is one of the largest monastic buildings in Europe. The final resting place of Richard the Lionheart, Eleanor de Aquitaine & Henry 11. Set in the village of Fontevraud l'Abbaye with bars & restaurants, a pretty village to wander around.

Just before you arrive in Fontevraud l'Abbaye there is the Savonnerie Martin de Candre. A family run artisanal traditional soap making company, producing quality soaps elaborated from a process originated in Marseille. Small boutique full of different shaped scented soaps & associated paraphernalia!
